Lance Taylor.

IMG00056-20111016-1211It is with deep sadness that we have to report the death of Lance Taylor on 30th October 2011 at the age of 91 years. Granville Leather writes:

Lance Taylor – Some personal memories.

Christine and I first met Lance at the entrance to Bank Street Chapel on a cold Sunday morning in January 1980. Lance greeted us and made us feel so welcome that by the time we went home it seemed that Bank Street Chapel had been in our lives for ever.

Lance was and always will be 'Mr. Bank Street'. Sunday School Superintendent, Council member, Chairman of the Congregation, sweeper up, light bulb changer, Christmas Party keeper of secrets – no task was too menial and no job too big for him to take on. He had a way of getting willing helpers – instead of 'can you do this for me?' he would ask 'can you do this for Bank Street?' That was his way.

Lance was a great family man, and alongside his dear wife Marjorie and his beloved daughters Janet, Sheila and Barbara, sat Bank Street Chapel.

His religion was very important to him, and this was reflected in his poetry, in his sermons and in his whole hearted enthusiasm for everything with which he was involved.

A full Chapel celebrated his life on the 10th November, as we came together to pay tribute to a man who was and is a ray of light that pierces the darkness.

Never was this epithet more richly deserved:

'Well done, thou good and faithful servant'

Thank You.

Our sincere and heartfelt thanks to you all for the love, support and numerous messages of condolence that we have received during the last few weeks following the death of our dear Dad and Grandpa.

Thank you also for the kind and generous gifts to Derian House Children's Hospice.

We are very proud that Dad had registered his name on the Organ Donor register. The gift of his eye has been gratefully received, and will restore the sight of one person, and rebuild the damaged eye of a second person.

Once again, many thanks to you all.

Janet, Sheila, Barbara and families.
